AMPP CIP Coating Inspector Course Level 1

A new training course to obtain an internationally valid AMPP CIP certificate

Completing the Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 1 Course is the first step towards obtaining the Basic Coatings Inspector Certification. This course lays the foundation by providing fundamental knowledge about coating materials, together with techniques for surface preparation and application, and the essentials of inspection testing and documentation.

Upon successfully achieving your Basic Coatings Inspector certification, you will gain the capability to conduct basic coating inspections on steel substrates, using non-destructive testing methods and instrumentation. 

Level 1 - Course highlights  

- Recognize how corrosion forms and the role protective coatings play in preventing corrosion. 
- Describe the role of the inspector: responsibilities, authority, safety, ethics, communication, and decision-making. 
- Differentiate between surface preparation equipment, methods, and standards for solvent cleaning, hand/power tool cleaning, wet/dry abrasive blasting, and water jetting.
- Identify quality control issues, recognizing design and fabrication defects and coating failure modes.
- Compare and contrast different generic coating types, their modes of protection and curing mechanisms. 
- Differentiate coating application by type, including brush, roller, airless, conventional, and plural component spray. 
- Utilize job specifications, safety/product data sheets, and a variety of inspection report documentation including NCRs, daily reports and inspection test plans. 
- Perform non-destructive inspection procedures for environmental conditions, visible/nonvisible contaminants, surface profile, film thickness, and holiday detection under the supervision of a qualified inspector.
- Comply with the AMPP Coating Inspector Code of Conduct. 

Enroll in the Coating Inspector Program and fulfill all course requirements:

- Successfully complete the CIP Level 1 Course.  
- Successfully complete the ‘Ethics for the Corrosion Professional course’ or an equivalent training. 

Take required exams 

- Certification Exam - Basic Coating Inspector Practical exam: this is administered in the classroom. 
- Practical Exam Preparation Guide  

Note: this exam is delivered as part of the AMPP CIP Level 1 course 

- Certification Exam - Basic Coating Inspector Written Exam NACE-CIP1-001: this can be scheduled through Pearson Virtual University Enterprises (VUE).

Note: this exam is available on Computer Based Testing (CBT) at VUE.

Agree to AMPP terms of service: this includes 

- AMPP Terms of Service, Candidate Agreement, and Code of Professional Conduct. 

Language of instruction: all courses will be held in English. For Turkish students, simultaneous translation will be available for both the lessons and the exams, if required.

The course fee includes training materials (course manual and necessary reference documents), a course certificate, lunches, and meals during coffee breaks.
