The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides detailed information about the environmental impact of a product or service. EPDs are based on Product Category Rules (PCRs) which provide rules, requirements and guidelines for the environmental life cycle assessment of a defined product category.

The evaluation of the Environmental Product Declaration (in accordance to General Program Instructions - GPI of EPD International, EN 150804:2021 and ISO 21930:2017 in case of construction products) is part of the new frontier of environmental accounting, given the evolution of environmental policies also in relation to the growing sensitivity towards the problem of climate change. Similar products from the same company can be included in the same EPD if certain requirements are met.
