Shaping tomorrow's innovators: Surrey's STEM students explore career paths

RINA contributes to bridging the gap between education and industry
In a recent collaboration with the local charity SATRO and Surrey County Council, we had the privilege of participating in a work experience event that offered local students a glimpse into the world of STEM careers. The event, held on 4th July, was more than just an opportunity for engagement: it was a chance to invest in our community and inspire the next generation of innovators.
Throughout the day, students with a keen interest in STEM had the chance to visit three different companies including RINA. This experience allowed them to gain a firsthand understanding of various business environments, the diverse career opportunities available, and what employers expect from their future employees.
The impact of the event was evident in the feedback received. Students left with a newfound confidence in understanding the skills employers seek, with 100% affirming their comprehension post-event, a significant leap from the 46% prior to the experience. Moreover, all participants expressed clarity on their next steps in their educational and career journeys. The understanding of employability skills also saw a remarkable increase, with 69% of students recognizing their capabilities, compared to just 23% before the event.
