Catherine Phillips, RINA Industry Product Compliance Principal Consultant, has been invited to speak at the Advanced Engineering Exhibition, taking place in Birmingham (UK) on October 30 & 31, 2024. This event is a prime opportunity for manufacturers at the forefront of engineering advancements to showcase their innovations.

The exhibition will highlight the challenges and opportunities presented by the plans to phase out per- and poly-fluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).

These substances, including fluorinated elastomers like FKM, FPM, and FKKM perfluoroelastomer (e.g., Viton™, Kalrez™, Aflas 200), and fluorinated polymers like polytetrafluoroethane (PTFE) and polyvinylfluoride (PVF), are integral to a wide range of products. From textiles to food contact materials, high-pressure systems to electronics, PFAS are ubiquitous due to their unique properties such as being sterile, oleophobic, hydrophobic, stain-resistant, non-stick, and lubricating. However, these same properties make them persistent in the environment, necessitating their phase-out.

Catherine will be presenting on where companies can find PFAS in their products and suggesting strategies to prepare for the impending regulatory changes.
