SMRs have a key role in low-carbon industrial applications as well as in the maritime field

European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)The world of energy is evolving, and we are at the forefront of this transformation. We are proud to announce our membership in the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), another step which proves our commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The key role of SMRs

Small modular reactors (SMRs) have the potential to revolutionize the energy sector. With their innovative safety features, SMRs offer a way to integrate nuclear technologies into a variety of industrial applications, and possibly even in the mobility sector, particularly maritime. Their small footprint allows for low-carbon electricity and heat production, essential for sectors with challenging emissions like transport, chemicals, hard to abate industries including steel, and district heating. Finally, SMRs can guarantee savings in terms of dedicated electrical infrastructure, as they are indeed serving specific local users and not necessarily supporting the national demand.

What is the European Industrial Alliance on SMRs?

The European Industrial Alliance on SMRs aims to facilitate and accelerate the development, demonstration, and deployment of the first SMRs projects in Europe in the early 2030s. Through dedicated working groups, the alliance is revitalizing the nuclear supply chain and improving conditions for SMR development. Its focus is not just on technology, but on supporting specific SMR projects to accelerate their deployment on the European market leveraging the existing know-how in the nuclear sector.
