Navigational Equipment & GMDSS Radio Stations This training course provides a detailed overview of navigational equipment and GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) radio stations as required on SOLAS-compliant vessels. It is designed to enhance awareness and technical understanding of how this equipment functions, how it integrates into bridge systems, and the regulatory frameworks governing its use.  

The course focuses on familiarization with equipment layout, purpose, inspection points, surveys, and compliance considerations.

This course provides participants with knowledge and understanding of the principles and operation of key navigational equipment and GMDSS components. The participants learn how GMDSS radio stations operate in accordance with the applicable regulations. 

- Introduction to navigational equipment and bridge layout.  
- Principles of radar, ECDIS, AIS, GPS, VDR. 
- Radio communication equipment: VHF, MF/HF, INMARSAT, NAVTEX, EPIRBs, SARTs. 
- Surveys of navigational equipment & relevant documentation.  
- GMDSS concept, components, and operational zones. 
- Sea areas requirements.  
- Maintenance, testing, and inspection expectations. 
- GMDSS regulatory framework. 

The course is suitable for deck cadets, marine engineers, safety officers, ship management staff, superintendents, and other maritime professionals involved in vessel inspections, audits, or general compliance, who need a clear understanding of navigational and GMDSS equipment without needing operator-level training.
