Quality in welding companies

ISO 3834 certification

The certification according to UNI EN ISO 3834 establishes the correct management of the welding manufacturing process and ensures that any welded construction complies with the quality requirements, both at the workshop and when at the construction site.

Technical Focus

The ISO 3834 standard is useful in specific contractual situations, such as the integration of UNI EN ISO 9001 into the specialist welding process management, and also constitutes a “presumption of conformity” within the European Directives such as PED (Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC), CPD (Construction Products Directive 89/106/EC), and Simple Pressure Vessels (Directive 2009/105/EC).
The ISO 3834 certification is also mandatory for civil engineering works, as envisaged by the Italian Ministerial Decree of 14/01/2008, for the purpose of obtaining the CTS (Central Technical Service) certificate of the Superior Council of Public Works of Italy (Consiglio Superiore dei Lavori Pubblici).

Q&A

Should a welding coordinator who wants to certify under ISO 3834 be a professional figure certified in accordance with the EWF scheme?

ISO 3834 requires that the coordinator’s skills meet the requirements of ISO 14731, but no EWF certifications are mandatory.

What are the certifiable parts under ISO 3834?

The certifiable parts are 2 (high quality requirements), 3 (normal quality requirements), and 4 (elementary quality requirements). The organisation can decide which of these can be certified by consulting Part 1 of the Standard.
